Matt Mitchell

As a Navy veteran, and as someone who has close friends who have been a part of this long war, this absolutely is amazing. The amount of time and effort that artist Matt Mitchell has put into this project is wonderful. Thank you, Matt, for telling these stories in the most beautiful way.

Maya Angelou

Alone

Lying, thinking
Last night
How to find my soul a home
Where water is not thirsty
And bread loaf is not stone
I came up with one thing
And I don’t believe I’m wrong
That nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

There are some millionaires
With money they can’t use
Their wives run round like banshees
Their children sing the blues
They’ve got expensive doctors
To cure their hearts of stone.
But nobody
No, nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Now if you listen closely
I’ll tell you what I know
Storm clouds are gathering
The wind is gonna blow
The race of man is suffering
And I can hear the moan,
‘Cause nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Dino Tomic

This artist was born in Croatia and is currently an amazing tattoo artist living in Norway. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in art and opened his tattoo/airbrush studio in 2011. His work is amazing.

I’m reading the series ‘A Song of Fire and Ice’ right now and haven’t watched the show, but this is an amazing pencil drawing of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s character:

'Game of Thrones' Jaimie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau)

The artist noted that he was going to change her up a bit, but found her hair too fun to draw!

I will be ostracized for this, but I am not a pet person. Still, this is a beautiful drawing for all of you who are!

Mary Jane Begin

My Little Pony is the new big thing at my house.  My daughter just loves Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy.  While searching the library online card catalog, I noticed My Little Pony Under the Sparkling Sea was available at the library.  Woo hoo!  A perfect surprise for my daughter!  This will make bedtime story extra special!  I checked it out on my way home from work, and as I was looking through it in the library, I found myself really impressed with the art.  The first thing I noticed was her realism; the mermares fins resembled the fins of a beta fish.  Then I noticed her thoughtful use of color and texture.  She also captures the My Little Pony character personalities very well.  Pinkie Pie is bubbly, and her curly mane and tail bounce along with her.  Rainbow Dash is ready to fly off to the next adventure.  Under the Sparkling Sea is beautiful children’s book, that inspires me to check out more of her work.  Mary Jane is a well known children’s book author and illustrator.  She has won several awards and also teaches online art classes.  She has a terrific website where she shares her work, and you can learn more about what art courses she offers.  My daughter loves books, so I have read a lot of children’s books.  It’s always a treat to find exceptional books that send my daughter off to slumberland, and inspire me at that same time.

Jae Lee

Jae Lee’s art stands out, and has only gotten better through the years.  He is the kind of artist, that you almost hate to see someone put color over his stunning inks.  His use of negative space is genius and beautiful.  Oh, and did I mention that I’m a fan?  🙂  Jae has worked on a plethora of comic books.  Currently he’s working on Batman Superman for DC Comics, and does not disappoint.

Mikael & Ren Seffer

The next stop on our little cruise is Grand Cayman. Here we find White Dog Art, studio of Mikael and Ren Seffer. Mikael is a native of the island, while Ren grew up in Australia. Together they create art that is full of life and color, just like the island on which they call home.

I particularly like Ren’s Island Whimsy collection – it’s just fun and reminds me of the laid-back lifestyle that the beach brings. You can see these and more on their website, whitedogart.com.

Eldon Spence

Thanks to Shiloh for holding down the fort and sharing some most fabulous artists while I was on a cruise! And in honor of said amazing week of paradise, I’ve decided to feature some artists from the three stops we made.

The first is Eldon Spence from Falmouth, Jamaica. He loved art from a young age, and later worked with Wildred Black, developing his own painting style. In addition to his painting, he is also an accomplished musician and singer.

I found a couple of these images here, and did a Google image search for two. I had a difficult time finding much, maybe mostly because I am still attempting to recover from my vacation!

Bryan Hitch

Today I share with you one of my all time, favorite comic book artists.  He’s on my list of artists to meet.  Bryan Hitch.  His cinematic art style displays genuine realism, while still giving you that “Marvel style” action, and relatable human characters.  The detail is tremendous; he thinks of everything.  Bryan is best known for his work on The Ultimates, which inspired The Avengers movie.  He’s also well known for his work on The Authority, which has a kick ass lead female character:  Jenny Sparks!  Pardon me, while I daydream about how I wish I were Jenny Sparks…….she’s so cool.  If you’re interested in reading any of the comics Bryan Hitch has worked on, check out your local comic books store.  Bryan is also on Twitter, where he shares sneak peaks of comic art that he’s working on.  He’s currently working on Real Heroes, which looks really interesting.  I just might check it out myself!

Dave Dorman – May the Fourth be with you! Part 3 the finale.

Dave Dorman’s artwork on Star Wars is amazing!  It’s beautiful and I love it!  He’s famous for painting the most stunning Star Wars comic book covers of all time.  He’s worked on the infamous Dark Empire series, Tales of the Jedi, posters and collectible trading cards galore.  He’s the cream of the crop.  Enjoy the Star Wars eye candy!

May the Fourth be with you, always.
